No Alternatives

I found this choice tidbit from a blog called "Liberty's Roar." The article it is from is a longer piece on Tuesday's election results. This bit caught my attention:

Last weekend, while dining at the IHOP, I had a conversation with a couple at a nearby table. The man, a prison minister, said “I’ll be honest with you, I voted for Barack Obama. I wish I hadn’t and I wish I could take it back, but I can’t. That said, I don’t think McCain would have been any better.”

And that, my friends, is why we are where we are today. The voters were not given a choice. The liberals picked their candidate and ours as well. If you believed Obama (and why wouldn’t you as the media refused to do even the most cursory of a background check to inform the voting public of his radical history) then there was but a scant difference between him and the crusty old McCain.

So, thank you Republicans for the election of Barack Obama. Thank you Republicans for providing the average voter with absolutely NO alternative.To all of you party hacks who continue to declare we must moderate our message to be more inclusive, we have done that since Reagan left and look at where it has gotten us. Now step aside assholes and let Conservatives try to repair the damage.

Obama Not Watching

After spending many days and millions of tax-payer dollars campaigning in Virginia and New Jersey, it's clear that Obama has no coat-tails.

One year ago, Obama handily won Virginia and New Jersey, and now his star-power has dimmed to a twinkle as both Virginia and New Jersey elected Republican candidates into high office.

Apparently the White House spin machine was not ready to explain the results. It was a nice touch not having to listen to Obama lecture us about how wonderful and bright he is and how he inherited every problem under the sun from the previous administration. The White House issued a statement after the GOP win saying the president was "not watching election returns and would not be making any remarks on the results." Bet me.

The key question now is: how are the Blue Dog Democrats going to view this big new political news? This was the first real poll of public sentiment about big government, big tax and spend, and the Obama-Pelosi-Reid drive to socialize America as fast as possible.

To be clear, these elections were not purely a referendum on Obama. Each candidate and each state has its own unique nuances. However, enough voters expressed that the Obama presidency played a role in their decision to affect the outcome. Clearly, independent voters, the ones who actually decide elections, are unhappy with the direction Obama is taking us.

Crap and Trade Tax Passes House Vote

By now you already know that the Waxman-Malarkey Bill passed 219-212.

This bill, a 1,300 page abomination which I call "Crap and Trade", but has also been known by other names, some of which are not printable on my family-friendly (usually) blog, is a bill which will add taxes and hike energy prices. The net result is that everything that requires energy to be manufactured and/or transported to market (which is a long way of saying "EVERYTHING") will be more expensive to the consumer. American jobs will be lost (or "created or saved" if you are in the White House), and many jobs will be exported to China and other nations.

This, in the middle of a deep recession with the unemployment percentage approaching double digits.

Eight Republicans voted in favor of the bill. They should be voted out of office during the next election cycle.

There were also 44 Democrats who crossed party lines and voted against the bill. I've read some blogs this morning who were congratulating these Dems for being "sane" and for voting for their conscience. I suspect something else. This bill will not be popular with the American people. 219 votes is the exact number they needed for this thing to pass. I suspect the 44 Dems were given "permission" by Pelosi to vote against the bill in order to prevent them from being ousted in their districts. This wasn't about conscience. This was about politics.

Add to this debacle, the Generational Theft Act of 2009, and we have a recipe for significant inflation on the horizon. Every political and economic analyst that I respect seems to be predicting this, along with a "secondary" recession coming soon.

... And Gov. Mark Sanford

For those of you new to my blog, I talked about so called "Christian Hypocrisy" in this post entitled "Carrie Prejean, Bristol Palin and Christian Hypocrisy." I've yet to decide whether more needs to be said about the Mark Sanford affair. I suspect not, but in case you haven't read that post, I think it's one of my better ones. Simply add Sanford's name to the list, and I don't think the main point of the post changes.
